Defiant Brides is the biography of two Revolutionary-era women who married men their families didn't like: Peggy Shippen, who married war hero turned traitor Benedict Arnold, and Lucy Flucker, who defied her wealthy Loyalist parents to marry a poor Boston man named Henry Knox; Henry Knox later became a famous general in the war.
